The most-asked-for gift in this category and an easy one to get right: pick a size (42mm for smaller wrists, 46mm for larger) and a band color. Gift receipts make the band easy to swap.

Skip it if: She has a Series 11; a one-year jump isn't worth $400. Or she uses Android, since Apple Watch only works with iPhone.

Skip it if: She hates subscriptions. Most of the useful insights sit behind the membership, so you're also gifting a monthly bill.

A motor Dyson says delivers about 30% more power and roughly double the airflow, in a smaller, lighter body. Attachments carry chips the tool recognizes, so heat and speed set themselves, and an air-only smoothing attachment dries and smooths without hot plates. Dyson added four new attachments this summer.

Best for: The person who blow-dries most mornings

Dyson's current top styler. The practical difference is time: more airflow means less of her morning spent drying.

Skip it if: She already has an Airwrap i.d.; the upgrade is real but modest for $700. If she has no Airwrap at all and budget matters, Dyson cut the i.d. to $499.99, and it's the better value.

What's new

A thinner, lighter body (6.8mm, down from 7.8mm), an edge-to-edge color display, and a new Fig color. The 8-week battery, warm light and waterproofing carry over.

Best for: Readers of cookbooks, travel guides, graphic novels, anything with covers worth seeing

Color e-paper shows covers, maps and illustrations without a tablet's glare or battery drain. Amazon raised last year's model to the same price, so there's no reason to buy the old one.

Skip it if: She owns the 2024 Colorsoft. The new one is thinner, but the screen resolution and battery are the same.

AirPods 5

Upgrades AirPods 2, 3 or 4

What's new

Noise cancelling is now standard on the base model, and Apple says it blocks up to 50% more noise than AirPods 4 with ANC. They support Live Translation and are more resistant to dust, sweat and water.

Best for: Anyone still on older AirPods who's never had noise cancelling

The best value on this page. Noise cancelling cost $179 on last year's AirPods; now it's $129. Spend the extra $20 on the wireless-charging version.

Skip it if: She already uses AirPods Pro. These are open-fit and won't block as much noise.
